Methods for preparation of Farm Yard Manures:
1) Pit method
2) Heap method
3) Box Method
Pit method or Trench Method :
This method is recommended by Acharya C.R. for areas with less than 750mm of rainfall per year.
Procedure:
1)For preparation of Farm Yard Manure the trenches of size 6m to 7.5 m length , 1.5 m to 2.0 m width and 1.0 m deep are dug.
2) All available dry litter and refuse from the farm and the houses should be heaped up near the cattle - shed and portions of litter, mixed with earth if available, should be spread in the shed in the evening, at the rate of 2.25 kg per animal for the absorption of urine .
3) Each morning, the urine- soaked refuse along with dung is collected and placed in the trench.
4) A Section of 1.0 m length of the trench from one end should be taken up for filling with the daily collection of refuse from cattle -shed.
5) When the section is filled up to a height of 45-60 cm above ground level , the top of the heap is made dome shaped and plastered over with cow dung earth slurry.
6) After that the next 1.0 m length of the trench is taken up for filling.
2) Heap Method:
In Heavy rainfall area the heap method of storing the manure is recommended.
1) Heaps are prepared above the ground and the manure yard situated on s high laying site
2) Every day the material is arranged layer by layer . Each layer is equal length and breadth with a height of about 30 cm
3) The manure is ready for use after about 4 to 5 months .
3) Box Method:
In this method, cattle shed itself is used for preparing & storing farm Yard Manure.
The floor of the shed ia dug 0.5 to 1m below the ground level& straw leaves & other refuses are spread daily on the floor to absorb urine. This process continues till the sunken portion rises slightly above the ground level.
The manure is then dug out & applied to the field .
